Taiwan's eight oil painting artist, Chuang Shiu-yau, was born in 1965 in the small fishing village of Chi-jin, Kaohsiung, and is the eldest son of his family. The family depended on fishing for a living, and his father often went out to fish the day after a typhoon, braving the stormy sea, just because there was a large amount of fish after the typhoon, so that he could earn more income. Because of the family's poor situation, his father had very high expectations of him, and he hoped that he would not follow in his footsteps, and so he was always scolded and educated in his education. His father demanded that he must enter Kaohsiung's top school, Hung Middle School, but he failed the entrance examination by 3 points and was admitted to Fung Middle School in the province. However, since he was a talented artist, he wanted to study in an art school and started a family revolution. Under his father's authority and the family's situation, of course, this wish was not fulfilled, which made him realize that the family's situation affects a person's right to choose, and that he had to take care of all the family's expenses, and that he had to take care of all the family's expenses only when his family's situation became better. Therefore, he gave up the idea of studying in an art school as well as studying in Provincial Fengshui Middle School, and decided to go out for work and to take care of all the family's expenses. The year after JUPAS, with the encouragement of his family and friends, he was admitted to the provincial Luodong Higher Education Institute. As he was not accustomed to the teaching system at that time, he chose to take a break from his studies and studied on his own way, which led to a wide range of studies, and what he had learned was not subject to the constraints of the institutional system, instead, it opened up more philosophies of life that were free of his mind, and it also planted a very important spiritual seed for his art career.
I had a great imagination as a child.
As a toddler, he did not have a picture of Thousand Handed Goddess of Mercy, and he said he didn't know why! He can draw Thousand Hands of Goddess of Mercy with his hands.
In addition, in one of the art classes at the national primary school, the teacher asked his classmate to be the model and asked the class to draw this classmate, and Chuang Successful had drawn this classmate as the King of Tibet, with the face of that classmate, and the finished work was rejected by the teacher, and the score was calculated as zero, and he left the classroom angrily in defiance of the teacher. Perhaps this was the flaw of the education system at that time. Failure to recognize and adapt to the needs of the students has buried many of these children with unique ideas and talents.
Since childhood, Chuang Successful has a rich imagination and loves to doodle, always filling the white space at home with his creativity, but because of this, he is often caught and beaten by his father. Writing this reminds me of Ku A-Ming in the masterpiece of Taiwanese literature, "Rubin's Flower", who couldn't stop his talent and desire to draw, and under the suppressed situation by the adults, the more he tries to get a brush, until the appearance of the scholar, Bole, the soul can be fully released and blossom. The more he tries to get a brush, the more his soul will be released and blossom until he is able to recognize his talent.
Turn your life around and take care of your family.
After graduating from junior high school, he realized that children from poor families have limited choices in life, and that the only way to build their dreams is to turn them around. He chose to work hard to share the family's finances, to earn money for his siblings' education, to develop a skill, to turn around the family's economy, and to grow together as one.
He has worked hard to earn money wherever he can, from menial jobs to apprenticeships, and then established his own business such as an automobile dealership and repair shop, real estate agency, funeral parlors, and so on. ....... Starting from nothing, he was prudent and turned his life and the fate of his family around one step at a time.
A turning point in his life at the age of 35, launching a full-time artistic career
In the mid-summer of 2000, he was 35 years old, at the peak of his career, and he was living a life of exploitation. Although he had no material worries, he felt empty and deprived inside and chose to end his life, and he attempted to commit suicide, but he was saved by a doctor. The doctor's words woke up the man in his dream. The doctor said to him, "If you don't die in this disaster, God has given you a great task to accomplish, so pull yourself together and fulfill it. He was awakened from his dream and came to a realization. Lying on the hospital bed, he began to think about what else he could do. Realizing that only painting could lead him to himself, he gradually stepped out of the business and devoted himself to creation.
In 2008, he was hit by the global financial tsunami, causing his family to fall into dire straits, but that year he was not crushed, instead, he became more and more courageous. After God closed one door for him, he also opened another window for him, which accidentally increased his desire to create, allowing him to enter into a more advanced artistic career.
Expectations for Self-Artistic Creation
In the course of his artistic creation, he received a lot of advice and support from a senior artist, who urged him to find his own creative vocabulary, and in response to his words: "It is better not to paint anything that is no different from anyone else. His words, "It is better not to paint anything that is the same as other people's," strengthened his conviction to continue to create. However, the process of searching for creative themes did not go smoothly. In order to understand his son's world, he personally participated in his son's Bajiazhuang training, temple activities, and his circle of friends in 2008, and because of this, he gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan's traditional jingtou and temple culture, and found a niche for his artistic creation. Without any intention, Mr. Chuang has been involved in the study of the Bajiazhuang dingtou and has been eating, drinking, sleeping and sleeping with them for more than two years, so that he has been able to understand the personalities of each member of the dingtou and the meaning of the Bajiazhuang's roles and meanings. In the end, his mission is to promote Taiwan's traditional culture, humanism, and caring for the grassroots through love, and he also hopes that his systematic, repetitive, and differentiated Bajiazhuang art creations will bring more people to reflect on their own local cultural identity, ethnic tolerance, and more human values.
